My local craft beer shop reopened. Since I have the day off, I’m spending the afternoon getting my drink on trying new brews.
Update: it’s a shandy from a local brewery. Thanks to all who played!

Either a Belgian of some kind or a Hefeweizen. Since the glass is wrong for a Hefe, I’m going with Belgian.

No, but you’re the warmest so far with the fruity part. And I did have a grapefruit IPA after this

It is a shandy, so I’ll give you credit for winning. It’s from a local-ish brewery.

No, but they did have that in bottles. It’s a shandy from a local brewery.

Ahhh. Do you happen to know what kind of beer was used to make the shandy?

Unfortunately, I don’t. The description here says the recipe is a secret. It also has a different ABV; the shop had it listed as 6%.

Ah, I thought it was a mix of lemonade and beer. I have had good luck with a variety pack of Magic Hat and some Newman’s Own Lemonade on a hot day, myself.

The brewery’s website doesn’t have it listed at all, but it could just be one of their beers mixed with lemonade.

Cool. I’m up in Richmond but my in-laws live in the tri-cities area so I’m down there every now and again. I discovered Bucket Trade a few weeks back when they were still in their old location getting ready to move. Great place.

Cool. My brother lives in Bon Air so I’m up there from time to time. My coworker told me about Bucket Trade a few months ago. They used to have a Chester location as well (which I never got to visit, even though I work in Chester), but they consolidated both into the new Petersburg location. The tap system they have is pretty cool. They have touchscreens that tell you what beer is on which tap, and they give you a chip card that you put on the screen to activate the tap. It’s pay-by-the-ounce and goes onto a tab which you pay at the end. I had 4 beers for about $10. After I was done I walked around Old Towne Petersburg for a bit until I was OK to drive, and found some good photoshoot spots.

Have you tried the food at Croaker’s Spot? My wife told me about it and holy balls is that some food right there. Might be some of the best I’ve had in recent memory.

I haven’t, but I’ve heard lots of good things. The only restaurant there I’ve frequented is Saucy’s, which is fantastic, but I haven’t been in awhile since I had a rude and condescending waitress last time I went. I also hear good things about Maria’s, which is run by some neighbors of mine.
If you’re down here one day and want to meet at Bucket Trade for a pint, I’d be up for that. I’ve been wanting to meet some local Opponauts.

Everyone from the tri-cities goes on and on about Saucy’s but I personally didn’t think they lived up to the hype. But then again, I’m close to Mission and Buz & Neds here.
Marias though is really great. Definitely worth a try. There’s a small Greek restaurant a few doors down from it that’s pretty great as well.

Yeah, I wouldn’t say Saucy’s is worth the drive when you have a better selection up there. Mission was OK. The sauce concept is the best part. Haven’t been to Buz & Neds. Q in Midlothian (close to my brother’s place) was also OK. They had a few local beers on tap, which I liked.
